About PrivateTranscribe

PrivateTranscribe is a voice dictation app for Windows. You press a hotkey, talk, and the text lands at your cursor in whatever app you were already using. Transcription runs on your own machine with local Whisper models by default, and cloud providers are something you turn on yourself if you want them.

Why we built it

The prompt in your head is usually longer than what you are willing to type. That is the whole reason this exists. We kept postponing good bug reports and detailed instructions to AI coding tools because writing out the context was slower than thinking it.

Most dictation tools solve that by sending your audio to a cloud API first. For a lot of work that is fine. For confidential recordings, client work, or anything you would rather not hand to a third party, it is a real problem, and the upload round trip also costs you time before any text shows up.

So we built the version we wanted. Local Whisper on your own hardware, CUDA acceleration when you have an NVIDIA GPU, and no account needed to start.

What local actually means here

We try to keep this claim precise instead of loud. With a local Whisper model selected, your raw audio stays on your PC during transcription. Your transcription history, settings, dictionary, and correction memory are stored locally and are not synced to our cloud.

Some features are explicitly online. App updates, optional Pro license activation, and any cloud provider you choose to enable all use the internet, and they only run when you ask for them. We would rather say local by default, cloud optional than claim nothing ever leaves your machine, because that would not be true for people who turn cloud features on.

Where the product is right now

PrivateTranscribe is in Windows beta. Starter works without an account and includes 5,000 transcribed words per day, every Whisper model, CUDA acceleration, the global hotkey, auto-paste, the custom dictionary, local history, and 99 languages.

Pro is a one-time purchase that removes the daily word limit. There is no subscription. AI Enhancement, Voice Assistant, Correction Memory, Smart Context, and Action Engine are still being built and are only available to approved testers until they are stable. Buying Pro does not grant tester access, and we would rather say that plainly than let anyone buy on the wrong assumption.

Who makes it

PrivateTranscribe is built and published by Julsgaard Products, a registered Danish company based in Aalborg. The Windows installer is signed by that same company, so Windows shows a real publisher name rather than an unknown one.
