2. What PrivateTranscribe does

PrivateTranscribe converts your speech into text. By default, all processing happens locally on your device using open-source Whisper models. No audio is sent to external servers unless you explicitly enable a cloud transcription provider.

3. Data we collect

Free version

Nothing. The free version runs entirely on your device. No telemetry, no analytics, no audio ever leaves your machine.

PrivateTranscribe Pro

  • Email address — to deliver your license key and send purchase receipts.
  • Payment information — processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
  • License activation data — a hashed device identifier and activation timestamp, stored on our licensing server. Used solely to enforce the 2-device limit.

Cloud transcription (optional, disabled by default)

If you enable a cloud provider (e.g. OpenAI Whisper API), audio is sent directly to that provider. PrivateTranscribe does not store or intercept this audio. Each provider has its own privacy policy.

Optional analytics (opt-in)

If you opt in during setup, basic anonymous usage events (e.g. "recording started") are collected to help improve the product. No audio, transcription content, or personally identifiable information is included. You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings.

4. Data we do NOT collect

  • We do not collect or transmit your transcriptions.
  • We do not sell or share personal data with third parties.
  • We do not use your data to train AI models.
  • We do not track you across websites or apps.

5. Where data is stored

  • License data: hosted on Supabase (EU region).
  • Payment data: processed and stored by Stripe (PCI-DSS compliant).
  • Everything else: stays on your device.

6. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

We process personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b)) — email and license data are necessary to deliver your purchase.
  • Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) — license activation data to prevent abuse.
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — optional analytics, where applicable.

7. Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Delete your data — email support@privatetranscribe.com.
  • Deactivate your license from within the app (Settings → PrivateTranscribe Pro).
  • Lodge a complaint with the Danish Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) at datatilsynet.dk.

8. Data retention

License records are retained for as long as your license is active. Upon a deletion request, we remove all associated personal data within 30 days.
